Nitrogen deficiency made worse by
- Low or high pH soils
- Sandy or light soils (leaching)
- Low organic matter
- Drought conditions
- High rainfall (leaching) or heavy irrigation
- Addition or high levels of non-decomposed organic matter/manure (eg straw)
- Fast growing crops
Nitrogen is important for
- Improved crop vigor and development
- Increased fruit set, yield and quality
Yara recommended fertilizers for Nitrogen
YaraMila® 15-15-15
Almond: For new orchards, apply 200-300 lbs/Acre to provide a good base of available phosphate for the development of the new trees. It also provides N and K for good early growth and development. YaraMila 15-15-15 is SOP based and low in chloride making it ideal for regions where chloride injury to roots or salt accumulation in the soil are concerns.very adequate for soils prone to salinity problems. In subsequent years, as trees mature, check for P soil and foliar status and adjust your applications to meet further needs. Consult with your agronomist for further details.

Almond: Young trees (1-3 years) benefit from nitrate applications as YaraLiva CAN-17 because nitrate nitrogen is readily available as well as soluble calcium for cell wall and membrane formation and soil health. Apply 15-60 lb N/Acre depending on tree age and vigor, at least 1/3 of which should be applied as YaraLiva CAN-17 in the early application. Mature trees need 70 lbs of N/Acre for each 1,000 lbs of nut yield goal. Applications should be split throughout the growing season and adjusted to reflect changes in yield goal. Early applications of YaraLiva CAN-17 help assure N absorption in cool weather and good nut set. Consult your agronomist for further details.
