Zinc deficiency-Almond

Symptoms
A first sign of severe Zn deficiency is a delayed budbreak in the spring season. Symptoms like shortened internodes of twigs, combined with enforced lateral shooting, and stunted growth of leaves (also described as „rosetting“ and „little leaf“), occur later on. Shoots are upright with narrow leaves. In addition, leaves become chlorotic and sometimes only the veins remain green. The youngest leaves may show an orange to bronze tint and curvy, twisted margins. Fruit set is reduced and nuts have a small size, resulting in low yield.

Reasons
Zinc deficiency. Zn undersupply is widespread in California's sandy soils. Large amounts of manure, deep soil temperature and ph > 7.3 aprox. may promote deficiencies. A value of <15ppm Zn at leaf analysis is considered as deficient.
