In this podcast episode (part 3 of 4 on the 4R Nutrient Stewardship topic), Dr. Steve Petrie discusses the third “R” of the 4 R’s in Nutrient Stewardship: the right placement of nutrients.
Once the right rate and the right source of fertilizer have been determined, nutrients need to be applied in the right place where they will be most available to the crop, maximizing their uptake. Soil environment in which the crop is growing and the crop itself need to be taken into consideration when determining the best placement of fertilizer.
