Arkansas Delta
Yara has recently established a Rice Incubator Farm in the Arkansas Delta in partnership with RiceTech and the University of Arkansas.
The AR Delta farm will explore solutions in rice production targeting nutrient and water use efficiency and greenhouse gas reductions while enhancing yield. By connecting the food chain to farming practices, the AR Delta Incubator Farm aims to deliver practical solutions to overcome production challenges while protecting the environment.
Located in Poinsett County, one of the highest rice-yielding counties in the US, this Incubator Farm will provide valuable data for rice producers as it is the only research experiment based on "white soils" in the Arkansas Delta, where Henry silt loams are predominant.
Key Objectives of the farm
- Explore low-carbon footprint products and biostimulants in rice production via fertigation
- Demonstrate nutrient use efficiency

Treatments Being Compared
Fertigation
A fertigated row rice tailwater recovery system using less than half of the nitrogen of the standard treatment, metered on a demand basis.
The tailwater recovery system allows for the recycling of excess irrigation and a collection of rainwater for re-irrigation.
Standard Irrigation
A standard furrow irrigated row rice treatment consisting of 4 conventional aerial fertilizer applications totaling 180 pounds of nitrogen per acre.
